How NCORE Programming is Determined

Emphasizing the Intersection of Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Religion, and Class

The National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education emphasizes the intersection of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and class with campus programming and the cultural environment. Determining the programming of each year's conference draws from multiple sources and relies on the submission of recommendations.

These recommendations flow from the Executive Committee of the Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies, the NCORE National Advisory Council, the conference's self-organized caucuses, feedback from conference surveys and session evaluations, NCORE staff, and other key stakeholders in the area of education and social justice. Then, an annual planning retreat brings people and ideas together. Following the retreat, the NCORE programming staff will reach out to invite keynote speakers, major workshop presenters, filmmakers, and other session presenters.

A Call for Proposals process occurs each year; anyone interested in presenting a concurrent breakout or poster session is encouraged to submit a proposal. Then, review teams read and give feedback to the NCORE programming team. Finally, a slate of sessions is recommended for inclusion in the conference program and the NCORE programming team will notify the presenters and alternates.
