THE CHILDREN'S BOOK BANK PROJECT
Support Early Literacy and Change Lives Through Books
Thank you, NCORE participants! All slots have filled for this project. We will not be maintaining a waiting list but will email all registrants if slots open. Check below for another way to participate and support this mission.
The mission of The Children’s Book Bank (CBB) is to support early literacy by providing a series of books to children in Portland. Local teachers work with the CBB staff to curate books for individual children, so they see themselves reflected on the pages. Each child receives 14 books that grow with them through several years of development.
NCORE + CBB
The Children’s Book Bank accepts donations of new or gently-used books from the Portland area year-round. That’s where your volunteer efforts are needed. The CBB wants to make certain each book is delivered in the best condition possible; therefore, volunteers will inspect, clean, and make minor repairs to the books. Volunteers can also sort and bundle books into tote bags before delivery to the children.
What to Expect
Round-trip transportation will be provided between the Oregon Convention Center and The Children’s Book Bank. A box lunch will be served at the conclusion of the volunteer session—and you will be back at the Convention Center in time for that day’s Keynote Address.
If you have secured a slot, we will send futher details a few weeks before NCORE. For now, plan on boarding the bus between 9:30 and 9:45 AM on your designated day (Wednesday, May 29, Thursday, May 30, or Friday, May 31). The volunteer session will be from 10:00 AM to approximately 1:00 PM.
