SAN FRANCISCO

Cosmopolitan flair, spectacular scenery and cultural diversity make San Francisco one of the top cities in the world!

A metropolis in every sense of the word, it is situated on the tip of a 32-mile-long, hilly peninsula between the Bay of San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean. Its harbor is spanned by two majestic landmarks, the Golden Gate and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridges, and pierced by four islands, Alcatraz, Angel, Yerba, Buena, and Treasure Island. San Francisco is the most culturally diverse county in the nation, where the proportions of major racial and ethnic groups are closer to being equal than in any other U.S. County. A city of many cultures, diverse cuisine, cable cars, landmark architecture, and some 43 hills, and about as many ethnic neighborhoods and special districts. San Francisco's compact 47 square miles are surrounded on three sides by the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, providing numerous vistas, vantage points, and visual delights. "The city" (as it is known) has a temperate marine climate that is almost perpetually springlike, with temperatures seldom above 70 or below 40 degrees. Principal attractions include Fisherman's Wharf, Downtown Union Square, Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Japantown, The Mission (Hispanic), Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz, Fine museums, world class performing arts events, and the home of the world's best restaurants.
